Lester Jack Belcher

Lester Jack Belcher, age 86, of Sulligent, AL, of the Crews Community, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, at the residence. He was born in Belcher, KY (Pike County) on March 3, 1922, a son of the late William B. Belcher and Elizabeth Looney Belcher. He retired as a coal miner and operated heavy machinery. He also was an U.S. Army WWII veteran where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Sulligent Church of Christ and previously served as a Deacon at Sharondale Church of Christ in Sharondale, KY. Mr. Belcher enjoyed fishing, gardening and wood working. He was a member of the United Mine Workers. He is survived by one daughter, Beth (Floyd) Hatfield, Sulligent, AL; two grandchildren, Kristi Hatfield Wright, Beaverton, AL and Dr. Jason (Emily) Hatfield, Winfield, AL; one sister, Fern Ratlif, Elkhorn City, KY; four great grandchildren, Hunter and Lilly Beth Wright, and Alexadoria and Cade Hatfield. He is preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Elizabeth Looney Belcher and his wife, Jacqueline Powell Belcher. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, AL, with Bro. Mitch Nethery officiating and eulogy given by Dr. Jason Hatfield. Graveside services with military honors and burial to follow in the Gilmer Addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Zadus Turner Jr., Morgan Sizemore, Steve Morton, Fred Markham, Jack Otts and James Jeffery.
